Help us get the word out to the community of what is happening at West Jeff. Needed are folks who will contact newspapers, distribute flyers and help the various committees create event flyers and maintain databases.
Art
Helper
Sometimes the art teacher needs assistance in the art room and with maintaining the art bulletin boards throughout the school. If you are interested in helping in the Art Room please sign up.
Bobcat
Newsletter
The newsletter is published monthly, delivered to all WJE families, and published on the PTA web site. The editor has all material approved by the principal and formats it on the computer. If you are interested in helping with the publication, collecting new articles, writing a parent interest column or finding advertisers, we need you!
Box
Tops for Education/Campbell's Soup Labels
This is primarily an at home activity. Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels are collected from the box in the school lobby, trimmed, sorted and grouped together and sent to the manufacturers’ center for redemption. Box Tops earn the school cash and Labels earn the school points toward equipment.
Carnival
The WJE PTA hosts a carnival every fall as a service and social event for the members of our school community. We need several volunteers to make this event a success. Carnival events may include: Dinner (coordinate w/ Hospitality) Silent Auction and possible link to 5K run. Duties include volunteer coordination, setup, cleanup, and staffing the activity booths.
Environmental
This committee coordinates the recycling programs at West Jeff and improves our children's education and awareness of worldwide environmental concerns through activities during Earth Week in the spring. We are trying to expand this committee to develop outdoor nature study areas to support the curriculum.
Family Fun Night
This committee brings high quality performers from around the world to the school to entertain our community. Duties include scheduling entertainers and coordinating the Family Fun Night events. Works directly with hospitality committee.
Gold
C Book Sales
The Gold C Sales is one of the two active PTA fundraisers. Volunteers coordinate the sale of coupon books during September through students and at grocery stores in the area.
Grant Writing
Researching new grant opportunites, assembling and writing grant applications.
Holiday
Elf Shoppe
In December we will have a gift shop for our students to purchase items for family and friends, while learning the value of money. This is a fun event the students look forward to each year. The shop is open for a two-day period and volunteers are rotated through shifts. The shift length depends on the number of volunteers.
Holiday
Bake Sale
In December we will have a bake sale following the Conifer Holiday Parade the first Saturday in December for the community. The sale will need volunteers to assist with the sale and donate baked goods.
Hospitality
This committee assists with Family Fun nights including; Back to School Night, Ice Cream Social, Carnival, Chili Cook-Off and other events. Help is needed with planning, baking/cooking, getting food donations, setup/cleanup, and making phone calls as needed.
Library
Media Center
The Library Media Center needs individuals to maintain the learning resources such as shelving and filing of books, using the computer, readying new books for check-out, helping with book fairs in October and March and assisting with “I Love to Read” month in January. We also need volunteers to help with our Student Publishing Center, new in 2007.
Literacy
Are you interested in phonics and early reading? We need you! This committee supports the school reading recovery program to have all children reading at grade level by 3rd grade. We need volunteers who are interested in helping the primary grades (K-2) with reading under the direction of staff members.
Marquee Maintenance
We need volunteers to update the signage on the outdoor marquee at the exit of the parking lot. Typically the marquee is updated every week or two. This job can be split between a few volunteers or rotating on a monthly basis depending on how many volunteers sign up.
Movie Night
Movie Night is a popular event on Friday evenings, where a recently released DVD is played for the school community in the school cafeteria using the school's projector and sound system.
PEAKs
Program
This program offers enrichment classes to all WJE students before and after school. We need volunteers to setup a class schedule, coordinate facilities with the school, oversee student signups, and teach these classes. If you have an interest or talent you would like to share through teaching a class please let us know.
Red Ribbon/ Health & Safety
This committee will continue efforts to improve children's knowledge and awareness of nutrition, drugs and alcohol abuse through activities during Red Ribbon Week (end of October) as well as coordinate health and safety presentations at the school.
Reflections
The National Reflections Art Show takes place in November with the art show being held on a Friday. Winners continue to county, state and national competitions. We need help with the organization and judging of this event.
Registration
(fall)
Join in the fun of helping with pre-registration at WJE a week before school starts next fall. We need volunteers to compile registration packets (1-2 hours), and help during registration (2 hour slots)
School Store
The school store is run by Student Leadership however they need a few parents to oversee the activities during the lunch period. This committee also runs the school supply advanced purchase program in the spring.
Science
Fair
The Science Fair is held in February on a Thursday and Friday. All 1st Place winners from our school will be sent on to participate in the Mountain Area Science Fair. We need volunteers for setup/breakdown, to provide dinner for the judges, tally results, and to help with judging.
Sock
Hop
The sock hop is a fun spring event that includes dinner, dance and raffle or silent auction. Help is needed for planning and decorations, set up, clean up and help during the event.
Sunshine
Committee
The Sunshine Committee offers assistance and loving concern to West Jefferson Elementary families disrupted by serious illness or accident and welcomes new students into the West Jeff Family. We need volunteers to cook food, provide occasional child care, and help with transportation.
Teacher/ Staff
Appreciation
We show our appreciation for our teachers and staff throughout the year with teacher appreciation week, secretary’s day, providing dinner during parent/teacher conferences, spring breakfast for the bus drivers, etc. We need volunteers for baking/cooking, setup/cleanup, and to help make phone calls as needed.
Traffic
Control
To help ensure the safety of all children, several parents volunteer with traffic control at the entrance to the school parking lot and the student drop-off/pick-up area. This is a duty which takes only 20 minutes day. These duties are assigned on a periodic basis.
Trunk
or Treat
This event is designed to give our kids a safe and fun place to trick or treat on Halloween night. Help is needed to coordinate donations of candy and prizes, decorations, food sales, and safety issues.
Web
page
Parent volunteers are needed to help develop and maintain the school and PTA web sites in cooperation with our school technologist and web master. Volunteers should have good computer skills and some knowledge of web page design.
Wish Board
There is a board inside the entrance to the school where teachers can post items that they would like to have for their classrooms. Parents can choose items that they would like to provide to a classroom from this board.
Yearbook
In recent years, West Jefferson Elementary students and families have been able to purchase a fabulous yearbook with memories to last a lifetime. This committee assists with the production of and collecting/taking of pictures to be used in the yearbook
